Day One
Day One (chapter one), the Beginning of an
"Adventure"
The brisk and soggy wind was blowing again. Even at this very early morning hour, thought the boy to himself. Blowing over a dew covered field in the upper steppes. A field in no matter how breath taking it was, it still was wet this time of year. It happened to be the field that Anthony came to set up camp by.
The boys out post was in a low valley surrounded by high mountains. Very out of the way.
The sky looked dark and cloudy and something was strange feeling. It wasn't the wind so much that the boy was concerned with. It was the dark sky. The sky looked strange and eerie filling him with a sense of dark foreboding.
Above the sky also held the promise of yet another night outside, in the rain!
Anthony was sitting with his knees pulled up to his chin, just underneath a spruce tree. He had picked the south side of the old battle field for a good reason. It had better cover and more shelter. It would help keep him from the rain tonight.
So it is here that the boy made camp.
Thinking; or more like day dreaming, the young boy envisioned a great battle unfolding before him. Then he would snap out of it and watch then wait some more.
For what you ask? Why a battle of course!
This was an old battle field; thats why the boy was waiting here. Anthony had set up camp and was waiting by an old trail. The trail that warriors had used on their way to battle!
In times long ago, but it still was a tral.
So it made perfect sense to him. Battles happen on battlefields. This was a battlefield! He figured that if he waited long enough, he would see a battle. Not bad thinking for a ten year old.
Anthony awoke wet and cold, again. Cold to the bone, damn! Hearing a strange ringing in his ears. The boy jumped to his feet and promptly hit his head on a low hanging branch. As he started to run he caught a glimpse of two figures. They were circling each other! It looked as if swords were bared and the fight was on.
The two men were facing off with swords drawn! That must have been the sound that awoke the boy this early morning. Steal on steal! In passing the boy wondered if it were only the two of them fighting? Well it's better than nothing. Anthony thought as he sprinted to the edge of the battlefield.
It was time that he find a good place to watch.
Finding an out of the way spot to hide he began to watch. As the boy did so it started to rain again. Anthony thought to himself, not more rain. He was already wet! Pulling his cloak up over his head seemed to help some. His eyes were now intent on the two figures in the field. When things seemed to get ominously quiet and dark. Are the clouds getting closer?
Smack! In one fluid motion! The knight took the head from the shoulders of his opponent! And without missing a breath the knight turned and stared directly into the boys eyes.
Get the horses!
This one's treachery has failed. said the knight. There is more evil to come.
Come with me boy, let us make haste from this evil place.
Now boy!
No sooner had Anthony, or rather the boy; thats what the knight had referred to him as. Found the horses, there was a terrible Thunder Clap! The sky opened up with rain and thunder. The lightening was wild! I love this kind of stuff, thought Anthony, wow!
The darkest part of the storm was moving off to the east. It looked as if the clouds were boiling with fire! Lightening flashed and chased around the outer edges! It was terrifying.
As the huge seething mass of a cloud came to a stop it seemed to lower down. Or was the water from the lake rising? No the lake was definitely getting lower. It was as if the cloud had sucked up some of the lake. Then bang! The strange cloud shot straight up into the sky! It was just gone. It started to spin and get bigger and then it was gone, bang!
The sun began to shine shortly after the strange cloud thing departed.
Anthony was getting warm in the sun and it felt good, it had been awhile.
He was going to be late for dinner again, he thought to himself!
Oh well, at least something interesting had happened. He pondered his current situation; thinking how his dad would react this time.
End chapter one; Day one.
