Warning!

IMPORTANT INFO
Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to type a telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and you will be given the person’s name and address. If you then hit MapQuest, you will get a map to the person’s house. Everyone should be aware of this! It’s a nationwide reverse telephone book.

If a child gives out his/her phone number, someone can now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming.

Note that you can have your phone number removed or blocked. I tried my number and it came up along with the mapquest and directions straight to our house. I did fill out the removal form for myself, and encourage all of you to do the same. Quite scary.

Please look up your own number.

In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to: google (http://www.google.com/) Type your phone number in the search bar (i.e. 555-555-1212) and hit enter. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simply click on your telephone number and then click on the Removal Form. Removal takes 48-hours.

Check your own number and although this may not apply to you if you have an unlisted number or cell phone as primary contact, but you may know someone who needs to know this.

Please share this information with friends and family

WHEN CHECKING YOUR NUMBER DONT PUT IN THE PREFIX 1— ONLY YOUR AREA CODE AND TELEPHONE NO…

“Computer Optimization”

Optimization of the computer sounds a lot more complicated than it really is; keep on reading to find out how easy it is to do you’re self. You can save about a hundred bucks doing this for you’re self instead of having Geek Squad or Fire dog do it.

First I like to start by uninstalling all the unneeded and
trial crap. That means you need to go to the add and remove programs feature on you’re computer. Next proceed in getting rid of all the programs that you don’t want.

After the general house keeping is done navigate to Ccleaner (”google is your friend”) and download it.
Open Ccleaner and run it, in both settings. This will clean out most of the temporary files and cookies folders; among other things. I use it myself.

Now you need an auto start program manager; among other
things, so navigate to this site to get all kinds of optimization soft ware for free Windows Sysinternals. I use this stuff all the time.

If you’ve been running windows for a while now you need to
disable some auto starting programs.
I like to start with the Adobe updater and reader; they will start when they are called for, so will the others that you disable. When that’s done I go for QuckTime and all the ITunes helper stuff. I also turn off the instant messengers. By this point you have removed a large start up burden from you’re newly optimized computer, restart and make sure that things stayed off.

Between uninstalling unwanted soft ware and turning off some
unneeded auto starting programs, you have sped up you’re computing
experience a bunch.

You can install full feature photo type applications and
office soft ware at a later time; for free.

Permalink Day One

Day One (chapter one), the Beginning of an

"Adventure"

The brisk and soggy wind was blowing again. Even at this very early morning hour, thought the boy to himself. Blowing over a dew covered field in the upper steppes. A field in no matter how breath taking it was, it still was wet this time of year. It happened to be the field that Anthony came to set up camp by.

The boys out post was in a low valley surrounded by high mountains. Very out of the way.

The sky looked dark and cloudy and something was strange feeling. It wasn't the wind so much that the boy was concerned with. It was the dark sky. The sky looked strange and eerie filling him with a sense of dark foreboding.

Above the sky also held the promise of yet another night outside, in the rain!
Anthony was sitting with his knees pulled up to his chin, just underneath a spruce tree. He had picked the south side of the old battle field for a good reason. It had better cover and more shelter. It would help keep him from the rain tonight.
So it is here that the boy made camp.

Thinking; or more like day dreaming, the young boy envisioned a great battle unfolding before him. Then he would snap out of it and watch then wait some more.
For what you ask? Why a battle of course!

This was an old battle field; thats why the boy was waiting here. Anthony had set up camp and was waiting by an old trail. The trail that warriors had used on their way to battle!
In times long ago, but it still was a tral.
So it made perfect sense to him. Battles happen on battlefields. This was a battlefield! He figured that if he waited long enough, he would see a battle. Not bad thinking for a ten year old.

Anthony awoke wet and cold, again. Cold to the bone, damn! Hearing a strange ringing in his ears. The boy jumped to his feet and promptly hit his head on a low hanging branch. As he started to run he caught a glimpse of two figures. They were circling each other! It looked as if swords were bared and the fight was on.

The two men were facing off with swords drawn! That must have been the sound that awoke the boy this early morning. Steal on steal! In passing the boy wondered if it were only the two of them fighting? Well it's better than nothing. Anthony thought as he sprinted to the edge of the battlefield.
It was time that he find a good place to watch.

Finding an out of the way spot to hide he began to watch. As the boy did so it started to rain again. Anthony thought to himself, not more rain. He was already wet! Pulling his cloak up over his head seemed to help some. His eyes were now intent on the two figures in the field. When things seemed to get ominously quiet and dark. Are the clouds getting closer?

Smack! In one fluid motion! The knight took the head from the shoulders of his opponent! And without missing a breath the knight turned and stared directly into the boys eyes.

Get the horses!
This one's treachery has failed. said the knight. There is more evil to come.
Come with me boy, let us make haste from this evil place.
Now boy!

No sooner had Anthony, or rather the boy; thats what the knight had referred to him as. Found the horses, there was a terrible Thunder Clap! The sky opened up with rain and thunder. The lightening was wild! I love this kind of stuff, thought Anthony, wow!

The darkest part of the storm was moving off to the east. It looked as if the clouds were boiling with fire! Lightening flashed and chased around the outer edges! It was terrifying.

As the huge seething mass of a cloud came to a stop it seemed to lower down. Or was the water from the lake rising? No the lake was definitely getting lower. It was as if the cloud had sucked up some of the lake. Then bang! The strange cloud shot straight up into the sky! It was just gone. It started to spin and get bigger and then it was gone, bang!

The sun began to shine shortly after the strange cloud thing departed.
Anthony was getting warm in the sun and it felt good, it had been awhile.
He was going to be late for dinner again, he thought to himself!
Oh well, at least something interesting had happened. He pondered his current situation; thinking how his dad would react this time.

End chapter one; Day one.

Permalink About skins...

By default, b2evolution blogs are displayed using a skin.

You can change the skin used by any blog by editing the blog settings in the admin interface.

You can download additional skins from the skin site. To install them, unzip them in the /blogs/skins directory, then go to General Settings > Skins in the admin interface and click on "Install new".

You can also create your own skins by duplicating, renaming and customizing any existing skin folder from the /blogs/skins directory.

To start customizing a skin, open its "index.main.php" file in an editor and read the comments in there. Note: you can also edit skins in the "Files" tab of the admin interface.

And, of course, read the manual on skins!

Permalink About widgets...

b2evolution blogs are installed with a default selection of Widgets. For example, the sidebar of this blog includes widgets like a calendar, a search field, a list of categories, a list of XML feeds, etc.

You can add, remove and reorder widgets from the Blog Settings tab in the admin interface.

Note: to be displayed widgets are placed in containers. Each container appears in a specific place on a skin. If you change the skin of your blog, the new skin may not use the same containers as the previous one. Make sure you place your widgets in containers that exist in the specific skin you are using.

Permalink Skins, Stubs, Templates & website integration...

By default, blogs are displayed using a skin. (More on skins in another post.)

This means, blogs are accessed through 'index.php', which loads default parameters from the database and then passes on the display job to a skin.

Alternatively, if you don't want to use the default DB parameters and want to, say, force a skin, a category or a specific linkblog, you can create a stub file like the provided 'a_stub.php' and call your blog through this stub instead of index.php .

Finally, if you need to do some very specific customizations to your blog, you may use plain templates instead of skins. In this case, call your blog through a full template, like the provided 'a_noskin.php'.

If you want to integrate a b2evolution blog into a complex website, you'll probably want to do it by copy/pasting code from a_noskin.php into a page of your website.

You will find more information in the stub/template files themselves. Open them in a text editor and read the comments in there.

Either way, make sure you go to the blogs admin and set the correct access method/URL for your blog. Otherwise, the permalinks will not function properly.

Permalink Apache optimization...

In the /blogs folder there is a file called [sample.htaccess]. You should try renaming it to [.htaccess].

This will optimize the way b2evolution is handled by the webserver (if you are using Apache). This file is not active by default because a few hosts would display an error right away when you try to use it. If this happens to you when you rename the file, just remove it and you'll be fine.
